In reading Matthew 7:21-23, it seems that the person is surprised that they won't be staying in heaven. They list all their great works for God. Jesus tells them, "depart from Me." This passage should cause us to grapple hard with our faith to make sure we are Christians. Do you think there will be surprises in heaven?

What gets into my heart is that these ones really believed their whole lives with assurance they were IN because of the great things God was doing through them. I Cor 8:1b-3 at the end of the sermon speaks of the approach of love to Him. He knows that appeal to Him and remembers that as He did Mary's washing. I want and need to grow in this.

I always thought that was one of the scariest verses in the bible. In C.S. Lewis' The Great Divorce, they are in heaven and there is a woman that has a great train of followers. The character representing Lewis wonders who she was, assuming some famous person, but it turned out she was just an everyday person that had been very kind to everyone, including animals, and had received a great reward in heaven.
