Jesus is very clear that the road to life is narrow and few find it. This goes against the prevailing attitude in our culture that all roads lead to God. Anyone want to weigh in?
Years ago, Kristy was about 10, she and I went on a trail ride at Mohican State Park with a group of other riders. The ground there was rockier than I had expected. Our horses didn't have shoes, so their feet began to get sore and we started going slower and slower. I could tell we were holding the whole group back, so I told them to go ahead without us and we would take our time getting back to the campground. Bad thing was I had never ridden those trails before and they were very poorly marked. The map was totally useless. Soon I began to realize that I didn't have a clue where we were or how to get back. We had probably ridden 15 miles at that point, about 4 hours. I was getting a little panicky, but didn't want to scare Kristy. I just wanted to get back before dark. We came to another fork in the trail and I just stopped and stared, pulled out my useless map and stared at it some more, wondering which way to go. We sat there a while and I had just decided to turn to the right, when we heard someone coming behind us, 2 riders that we didn't know. They could tell we were lost and said we could follow them. We followed as they turned to the left!
Point of the story is that all the trails did not lead to our destination. I desperately wanted to find the one that did, but was about to take one that led in the opposite direction until someone pointed out my error.
I didn't view those riders as being intolerant, but was very grateful that they showed me the path that led to life and safety at the campground! :)
I have often wondered if God sent a couple angels to rescue us.
